Simply Better Service for a World-Class Community

The City of Scottsdale–one of the nation's most admired and well-managed municipalities–invites accomplished audit leaders to apply for the role of City Auditor. This is a rare opportunity to serve in an influential, independent position in a city recognized for innovation, integrity, and exceptional quality of life.

Nestled in the stunning Sonoran Desert and framed by the McDowell Mountains, Scottsdale is known for its vibrant arts scene, world-class amenities, award-winning parks and trails, and a dynamic economy anchored by technology, healthcare, tourism, and entrepreneurship. With more than 300 days of sunshine each year and over 30,000 acres of protected desert preserve, Scottsdale offers an unparalleled setting to thrive both personally and professionally.

Reporting directly to the City Council, the City Auditor leads a respected, high-impact function dedicated to promoting accountability, efficiency, and integrity across all City operations. Supported by a skilled and collaborative audit team, the Auditor provides independent insight, foresight, and oversight through performance, financial, compliance, and IT audits that strengthen internal controls, elevate service delivery, and uphold public trust.

Scottsdale seeks a strategic, ethical, and forward-thinking audit professional who brings deep expertise in performance auditing, internal controls, and risk management. The ideal candidate is an independent yet collaborative leader–someone who communicates with clarity, builds constructive relationships, embraces data-driven methodologies, and anticipates emerging risks in a complex, evolving environment.

This role offers the chance to influence citywide performance, champion continuous improvement, and contribute to Scottsdale's legacy as one of America's best-run cities.

Requirements: Must be certified as either a CIA, CPA or CMA. Residency in the City is required within six months of appointment.
