The Arcata Fire District is hiring Assistant Chiefs!

The Arcata Fire District is a single-purpose Special District, independent from the County of Humboldt and the City of Arcata; governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by the voters. The District is a combination fire protection agency (career and volunteer firefighters) protecting 37,000 residents living amongst industrial, commercial, residential, agricultural, beaches, and Wildland Urban Interface areas. Located on the coast of Northern California, the District protects the City of Arcata, the communities of McKinleyville, Bayside, Manila, Jacoby Creek, and other rural areas for a total service area of 62 square miles.

Receiving administrative direction from the Chief, the Assistant Chief is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, staffing, and controlling a major operating division and/or programmatic section of the District. The Assistant Chief is a leader in the District therefore, assisting the Chief with planning and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of the District, maintaining operational readiness, and managing special projects. Also, the Assistant Chief will have the responsibility to act in the absence of the Fire Chief as assigned. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, continuous fire service experience, full-time supervisory experience, and related certifications.
