Located in the southwest portion of the Denver metro area, the City of Sheridan encompasses two square miles and is home to a diverse population of 8,000 residents. The police department strives to enhance partnerships with the community which assists in preventing, solving, and reducing crime while enhancing the quality of life in Sheridan.

Reporting to the City Manager, the Police Chief oversees the daily operations of the Police Department and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager. The Chief is an active and contributing member of the City’s Leadership Team. The Department is supported by 38 personnel and a $7.6 million budget. This position is available due to the retirement of the previous, long-serving Chief.

The next Police Chief must understand the challenges of policing a small community that experiences the same complex issues faced by larger, urban departments. The successful candidate will be a multi-tasker who possesses strong budgeting skills and is actively engaged and participatory at all levels of the department. The ideal candidate will be open-minded and progressive and possess the leadership/management skills to move the Department forward.
