Applicants interested in the SCTA/RCPA Executive Director role will see a unique opportunity to plan, develop policy, fund priorities, and implement projects in a collaborative and multidisciplinary manner. This dual agency has responsibilities covering local government action on transportation and climate change with a focus on collaboration, integrity, and building public trust.

The Executive Director is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors for both SCTA and RCPA. Each are separate legal entities but have the same Board and a combined staff. The Executive Director acts as the chief administrative officer and provides strategic guidance and leadership for all SCTA/RCPA functions and services.

The Board of Directors is seeking well-rounded candidates who possess the ability to understand both the transportation and climate issues facing Sonoma County. The next Executive Director must be a relationship builder and appreciate the importance of working with stakeholders across the board from the local citizenry to federal level funders. The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and creative problem-solving abilities and bring a track record of getting things done. They understand equity and the importance of a supportive work culture while also applying that lens to all projects and initiatives. Proven leaders who embrace organizational development, innovation and collaboration will find this role rewarding.

Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The ideal candidate will possess no less than seven years in transportation planning, public administration, or a related field with at least three years of management experience. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in transportation planning, city or urban planning, engineering, business or public administration, sustainability, or a closely related field is required, with a Master’s degree in similar fields preferred.
