Chief Investigator of the Commission on Police Practices
Salary: $138,000 to $147,000 DOQ

The City of San Diego is reopening a national search for a new Chief Investigator for the Commission on Police Practices with an increased salary range. The Deputy Executive Director’s principal function is to supervise the day-to-day operations of the investigators in the Office of the Commission on Police Practices and oversee the investigator’s work product, review evidence collection and procedures, administer investigative techniques, and manage the most complex, sensitive, and difficult negotiations.

Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree with a major in criminal justice, law enforcement, administration of justice, political science, criminology, or a comparable field of study from an accredited college/university. Additionally, they should have five(5) years conducting civil, criminal, or factual investigations that involve gathering, analyzing and evaluating evidence, conducting interviews with friendly and adverse witnesses and documenting information in written form, including at least three(3) years of progressively managerial and supervisory experience. NACOLE Certified Practitioner of Oversight (CPO) Certificate is also required. If the candidate does not have the NACOLE certificate, they must obtain it within 2 years of being hired.
