TRPA is a unique bi-state Agency charged with regional planning, development oversight, implementation of environmental improvement projects, and restoration programs for the spectacularly beautiful Lake Tahoe Region. Agency executives, managers, and employees lead programs that weave together science, policy, public and private financial investment, and collaborative partnerships as foundations critical to Lake Tahoe’s long-term preservation.
The Principal Planner will have the chance to work at the intersection of land use and transportation planning for an organization with authority and responsibility to do both. Under the general direction of the Long Range and Transportation Planning Division Manager, this position will manage a full range of complex professional planning duties related to long range land use and environmental planning. The position will supervise four professional planners and will be responsible for the quality of their work.
The selected applicant for this position must possess broad highly specialized knowledge, abilities, skills, and experience; and carry out necessary activities without managerial direction except as new or unusual circumstances arise. Judgment is required both in interpreting established policies, goals, and objectives, and in applying concepts, plans, and strategies. Very strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
Requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in planning, architecture, public administration, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field, plus seven or more years related professional planning or equivalent education and experience. A Masters or Doctorate Degree may substitute for two years of planning experience. Two or more years of supervision/management experience required. Preference given to those with AICP certification.
